These photographs of Florence and San Gimignano were taken by a FB friend on his recent trip to Italy.

 

Ira Serkes is a Facebook friend who also grew up in the Bronx. He has been posting photos of his just-concluded Grand Tour of Italy (which we did not plan or book for him) and they are very, very good. I have his permission to post them here. The clarity of the pictures is due to the fact that he got up at 4:00 am to catch the rising sun and the absence of crowds. (Film Director Terence Malick calls this, and the twilight equivalent, the Magic Hour)
