Undoubtedly, the Amalfi Coast has become one of the top destinations for tourists to experience in Italy ("become"? it perhaps has always been but now it is overcrowded).

How NOT To Travel From Naples to the Amalfi Coast
The headline should be "Plan in advance and Download the Ferry Schedules". Cars, buses, and taxis are going to cost time and money.
One thought, not in this article, and depending upon your plans for being on the coast and where, is to bypass Naples entirely and travel to Salerno, not Naples. If that works for you then you can cut down the distance to get to say, the city of Amalfi for example by being east and not west of the city.
